Fort Wayne, Indiana (June 24, 2026) – Mayor Sharon Tucker and the City’s Public Works Division announced today that Open Streets Fort Wayne will return on Sunday, August 16, 12:00 – 4:00 p.m., for the ninth year. This free community event is “people-powered” and provides participants with a safe space to bike, walk and play along more than 20 blocks on Calhoun Street. There will be activities for people of all ages and backgrounds to enjoy together with games, music, food and much more planned.

This year, for the first time, the Fort Wayne FC is excited to host a meet and greet with their players! Additional new activities include live ice sculpting, a rapid chess tournament, a fitness challenge with a leaderboard, along with fun roping activities provided by the Summit Equestrian Club.

“Unique events like Open Streets bring us together as a community to spend time with family and friends, meet new people, and try fun activities,” said Mayor Tucker. “We have so much to experience and celebrate in Fort Wayne. I encourage everyone to come out and enjoy the special day.”

“We invite you to ‘Come Play in the Streets’ on Sunday, August 16 as Open Streets returns for the ninth season,” said Greenways Program Manager Rick Zolman. “We’re expecting 125 activity providers to bring fun, food and the cool Open Streets vibe to the Calhoun Corridor. Gather your friends, family, and neighbors to join us by wheel, heel, roll or stroll. Don’t miss out on a free ice cream cone provided by Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream while enjoying Fort Wayne’s largest block party.”

Volunteers are needed for 2 ½ hour time slots, before, during and after the event. For available time slots, tasks involved and to sign up to volunteer: 2026 Open Streets Volunteer Sign Up.
