Allen County Coroner news release identifying the body found Tuesday, May 4, 2021, as drowning victim Alexander Ray Turner.

Fort Wayne, Indiana (May 5, 2021) – The Allen County Coroner’s Office was contacted at about 0910 hours on Tuesday May 4, 2021 reference, the discovery of the body in the Maumee River. Fort Wayne Police Department, Three Rivers Ambulance Authority Medics, Fort Wayne Firefighters and the Indiana Department of Natural Resources were dispatched to the 700 block of Edgewater Avenue, Fort Wayne for the water recovery. Fort Wayne Fire Department recovered the decedent and removed the body from the river. Death was pronounced on scene by the paramedics. The decedent was transported from the scene to the Northeast Indiana Forensic Center for autopsy.

An autopsy has been completed and the next of kin has been notified of the death. The decedent has been positively identified as Alexander Ray Turner, male black 28 years of age from Fort Wayne, Indiana. Alexander Ray Turner was reported missing to the Fort Wayne Police Department on April 29, 2021 by family members.

The Cause of Death is Asphyxia due to Drowning and the Manner of Death is Accident.

This incident remains under investigation by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, the Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County Coroner’s Office.
