News Release from the TinCaps:

Fort Wayne Falls in Series-Opener at Lansing

LANSING, Mich. (April 21, 2015) – The TinCaps dropped the opener of a three-game series to the Lugnuts on Tuesday night, 8-1, at Cooley Law School Stadium.

A 3-1 contest became lop-sided in the bottom of the eighth inning when Lansing scored five times. First baseman Rowdy Tellez plated two in the key frame on a double, while D.J. Davis cleared the bases with a triple.

Centerfielder Michael Gettys doubled and scored Fort Wayne’s lone run in the top of the seventh inning. Gettys came in when Nick Torres hit a sharp grounder to Lugnuts second baseman Tim Locastro, who misplayed the ball, enabling the run to come in.

TinCaps starter Taylor Cox (L, 0-1) limited Lansing to three runs over 5 2/3 innings. T.J. Weir (three runs) and Kyle McGrath (two runs) worked out of the Fort Wayne (3-7) bullpen.

Shortstop Franchy Cordero doubled for the TinCaps in the loss. Franmil Reyes and Felipe Blanco also added hits. Blanco has reached base safely in eight consecutive games.

Lansing (10-3) received five impressive innings from starter Shane Dawson (W, 1-1), who only allowed one base runner over 5 innings. The left-hander from Alberta, Canada, struck out seven. Starlyn Suriel followed with 3 1/3 innings of work before Phil Kish recorded the final two outs.

Fort Wayne and Lansing meet for the middle game of their series on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. Southpaw Taylor Aikenhead (0-0, 11.37) is set to start for the TinCaps against righty Chase Mallard (0-0, 3.27). The game can be heard on ESPN Radio 1380, Box Score, and the TuneIn Radio app.
