What’s Happening at the Botanical Conservatory September 4 – 11
Lil’ Ed & The Blues Imperials — Friday, September 4, 8:30 p.m. Lil’ Ed and the Blues Imperials are among the premiere party bands to have come out of Chicago during the ’80s. Often compared to Elmore James and Hound Dog Taylor, fiery, flamboyant slide guitarist Lil’ Ed Williams and his group play dedicated, rough-edged and hard-rocking dance music and have established an international reputation. Doors open at 7:30 p.m., opening act at 8:30 p.m. and the featured band will play at approximately 9:15 p.m. Admission: $6/ages 13 and up, free for ages 12 and under. Members admitted free.
Fall Plant Swap — Saturday, September 5, 10 a.m. Join other plant lovers at the Conservatory for a free exchange of plants. Set aside extra seeds, divisions or full-grown plants of any type, then bring them down to swap for something new. Plants should be healthy, separated into “individual servings” and labeled with either their common or botanical name. Bring a box or bag to carry your plants home in. Phone reservations are requested. Leave a message at 260-427-6442 with your name, phone number and the number of people participating.
Science Saturday — If I Only Had a Brain—Saturday, September 5, 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Explore the mysteries of the brain and nervous system. From synapses to sense, optical illusions to hallucinations, discover many different ways to tweak, hack, fool and otherwise have fun with your brain. Each program lasts about 30 minutes and is appropriate for ages 5 and up. Admission is $5/adult, $3/child age 3-17, free for children 2 and under.
Wayne “the Train” Hancock — Friday, September 11, 8:30 p.m. Since his stunning debut, Thunderstorms and Neon Signs in 1995,Wayne”The Train” Hancock has been the undisputed king of Juke Joint Swing—that alchemist’s dream of honky-tonk, western swing, blues, Texas rockabilly and big band. Doors open at 7:30 p.m., opening act at 8:30 p.m. and the featured band will play at approximately 9:15 p.m. Admission: $6/ages 13 and up, free for ages 12 and under. Members admitted free.
