Game recap from the TinCaps:
Fort Wayne Loses Longest Game of Season
Dragons Defeat TinCaps, 6-5, in 12 Innings
DAYTON, Ohio (June 12, 2016) – In their longest game so far in 2016 by both innings and time, the TinCaps lost to the Dayton Dragons, 6-5, in 12 innings on Saturday night at Fifth Third Field.
The 3 hour, 53-minute affair came to an end when Dragons (17-45) third baseman Tanner Rahier hit a walk-off single to center field that scored Zack Shields from second base. Shields was pinch-running for Argenis Aldazoro, who drew a one-out walk against Nick Monroe (L, 2-2).
Fort Wayne (34-28) fell despite overcoming three different deficits during the game. Dayton took a 2-0 lead against TinCaps starter Thomas Dorminy in the bottom of the fourth inning. But the visitors tied it, 2-2, in the top of the fifth inning on a two-run blast by first baseman Ty France — his fourth of the season. France brought in catcher Austin Allen (3-for-6, double).
After the Dragons reclaimed the lead, 3-2, with a run in the fifth, Fort Wayne used the long ball once more to re-tie it in the seventh as center fielder Michael Gettys smacked his third homer this year, a solo shot.
Following a similar script, Dayton once again went in front in the home seventh, 4-3, only to see Gettys equalize in the ninth with an RBI triple to plate second baseman Peter Van Gansen, who had singled.
Gettys (3-for-6, 3 RBIs) gave the TinCaps their first lead of the night in the 12th with a two-out single to plate Tyler Moore. The left fielder drew a leadoff walk against Jesus Reyes (W, 2-1) and stole second.
