New Haven holds Flag Ceremony, flyover to celebrate America’s 250th birthday
Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita headlines eventNew Haven, Indiana (July 4, 2026) – The City of New Haven held a ceremonial flag raising to honor veterans and celebrate America’s freedom outside City Hall on Saturday.
The event included a flyover performed by two F-16s from the 122nd Fighter Wing. Later, the New Haven Police and Fire Honor Guard retired the United States flag and raised a commemorative 250th Anniversary American flag on City Hall’s front lawn.
Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita delivered remarks at Saturday’s event.
Mayor Steve McMichael said he was honored to speak and help tell the stories of New Haven patriots.
“The American Flag is so much more than just a symbol of our nation’s history. It’s a daily reminder of the freedom, unity, and shared values that bind us together right here in New Haven,” McMichael said.
Shepherd’s House Director of Veteran Outreach Tracy Barr also shared perspective on what the flag means to her.
Community Development Director Zach Washler read the Declaration of Independence.
