Fort Wayne City Utilities is mourning the loss of Deputy Director Matt Land, who passed away following a brief and unexpected illness.

City Utilities Mourns Deputy Director Matt Land

Fort Wayne, Indiana (September 29, 2026) — City Utilities is mourning the loss of Deputy Director Matt Land, who passed away following a brief and unexpected illness.

Land served for 18 years as Deputy Director of Policy and Operations and was a longtime member of the City Utilities leadership team.

“Matt was a dynamic individual who understood public service and always kept people at the center of the decisions we made,” said City Utilities Director Kumar Menon. “He cared deeply about our customers, our employees and this community. His loss is deeply felt across City Utilities, and our thoughts are with his family and all those who knew and cared about him.”

Throughout his career, Land helped strengthen the Utility by ensuring greater consistency and fairness in our processes and practices, expanding employee education and cross-training opportunities, and helping provide customers with better options to interact with City Utilities. He also worked with business and community leaders on issues ranging from best practices in housing and neighborhood development and advocating for better environmental stewardship.

Land brought a strong commitment to employees, supporting efforts to improve training, professional growth, and the workplace. Whether the issue involved customers, employees or the broader community, his focus remained on making City Utilities stronger and better able to serve our customers and our growing community.
