NWS: St. Marys River Flood Warning – 9/17/2026

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Warning for the St. Marys River in Allen County and Fort Wayne, Indiana.

...The Flood Warning is extended for the following rivers in
Indiana...Ohio...

  Saint Marys River near Decatur affecting Van Wert, Adams and Allen
  IN Counties.

...The Flood Warning continues for the following rivers in Indiana...

  Saint Marys River at St. Mary`s River near Fort Wayne affecting
  Allen IN County.

  Wabash River near Bluffton IN affecting Wells County.

  Wabash River near Linn Grove affecting Wells and Adams Counties.

For the Wabash River...including Linn Grove, Bluffton IN...Moderate
flooding is forecast.
For the Saint Marys River...including Decatur...Moderate flooding is
forecast.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Motorists should not attempt to drive around barricades or drive cars
through flooded areas.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

  forecast.

* WHERE...Saint Marys River near Decatur.

* WHEN...Until further notice.

* IMPACTS...At 23.0 feet, Portions of Ohio Routes 33, 49 and 81 are
  closed near Willshire.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
  - At 2:05 PM EDT Thursday the stage was 17.4 feet.
  - Bankfull stage is 15.0 feet.
  - Recent Activity...The maximum river stage in the 24 hours ending
    at 2:05 PM EDT Thursday was 17.4 feet.
  - Forecast...The river is expected to rise to a crest of 23.2 feet
    early Saturday morning. It will then fall below flood stage early
    Tuesday morning.
  - Flood stage is 17.0 feet.

* IMPACTS...At 17.0 feet, Some residents in the Winchester Road area
  may need to be evacuated. Property damage begins in some areas at
  this level.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
  - At 9:30 PM EDT Thursday the stage was 10.9 feet.
  - Bankfull stage is 14.0 feet.
  - Forecast...The river is expected to rise above flood stage early
    tomorrow afternoon to a crest of 16.9 feet early Saturday
    morning. It will then fall below flood stage early Sunday
    morning.
  - Flood stage is 14.0 feet.
