Fort Wayne Loses Series Opener to Dayton
Fort Wayne, Indiana (August 25, 2026) – The Fort Wayne TinCaps scored five runs in the first three innings in their 9-6 loss to the Dayton Dragons (Reds affiliate) at Parkview Field on Tuesday night.
Fort Wayne (50-69, 23-30) was led offensively by center fielder Kasen Wells in the series-opening loss. Wells singled and later scored in the first inning before hitting his second home run of the year in the second inning.
The round-tripper is the first for Wells this season that cleared the fence, as he collected an inside-the-park home run on June 19 at home against South Bend. It was the first inside-the-parker for the TinCaps since Jackson Merrill sped around the bases on May 30, 2023, at home against the Cubs.
Dayton (61-58, 22-31) put together four multi-run innings in their ninth win against Fort Wayne this season. Right fielder Damian Ruiz launched his first professional home run, a two-run blast, in the second inning. Catcher John Michael Faile reached base safely in four of his five plate appearances, including a pair of doubles. The 26-year-old has 14 doubles this season, with his RBI knock in the third inning being his 40th run batted in this year.
Center fielder Jack Lausch collected the first multi-hit game of his professional career in the victory. The 17th-round pick in last month’s draft out of Northwestern was 1-for-20 in his first nine games with the Dragons entering play on Tuesday. Lausch’s first pro hit was a home run on Saturday at home against Quad Cities.
