Fort Wayne Five-Run Comeback Not Enough in Friday Night Loss
Fort Wayne, Indiana (August 21, 2026) – The Fort Wayne TinCaps came back from a five-run deficit, but a five-run top of the 10th inning gave the Great Lakes Loons (Dodgers affiliate) a 13-8 win in extra innings.
Great Lakes (65-50, 29-22) struck first in the second inning on a two-run single by Eduardo Quintero (No. 20 MLB prospect/Dodgers No. 3 prospect). Two innings later, the Loons batted all nine, scoring three runs on one hit and five walks. All three runs scored on RBI bases-loaded walks, as the ‘Caps used three arms to get three outs in the inning.
Fort Wayne (59-67, 22-27) immediately answered with their second five-run inning of the series. Bradley Frye struck into the deficit with a three-run home run to right-center field, his second High-A home run. Following an RBI single by Kasen Wells, shortstop Rosman Verdugo roped an RBI double down the left-field line to tie the game.
Mental mistakes, free passes, and errors marked the game for the ‘Caps as Great Lakes took the lead back in the sixth on a two-out error by Kerrington Cross, being unable to grasp a wide throw by Frye at third. Frye would then reach on a three-base error in the bottom of the frame and would tie up the game again on a Dylan Grego sacrifice fly.
The next inning, Verdugo gave the ‘Caps their first lead of the night with his 14th home run of the season, the 28th of his TinCaps career. The 21-year-old is now fourth all-time in Fort Wayne franchise home runs.
In the top of the ninth, the ‘Caps were one out away from holding on to a one-run win. Following a pair of walks and a groundout to move both runners into scoring position, an errant throw after a diving play at third base by Frye scored both runs and gave the Loons the lead.
In the bottom of the ninth, also down to their final out, Robbie Lavey (No. 20 Padres prospect) tied the game with an RBI double down the right-field line. With the winning run at third base, a strikeout closed out the ninth inning and moved it to extra innings.
The Loons scored five runs on three hits in the top of the 10th inning. Quintero gave Great Lakes the lead with a sacrifice fly. Following a two-out single and a walk, Nico Perez (No 23 Dodgers prospect) cleared the bases with a three-run double to extend the lead. Mairo Martinez closed out the scoring with an RBI single to right field to put the Loons up 13-8.
Fort Wayne went down in order in the bottom of the 10th, dropping their second straight game.
