Fans Pack Parkview Field for Ninth Sellout Crowd of Season in Saturday Night Loss
Fort Wayne, Indiana (August 8, 2026) – A sellout crowd of 7,575 fans packed Parkview Field in Fort Wayne’s Friday night 14-6 loss to the West Michigan Whitecaps (Tigers affiliate).
The Whitecaps (47-58, 23-18) scored in each of the first four innings. Following one in both the first and second innings, West Michigan scored a season-high 10 runs in the third. It is the sixth time since at least 2005 that the Whitecaps have scored 10 or more runs in an inning, with their last 10-plus run inning coming last season with a record-breaking 13-run first inning against the Dayton Dragons (Reds affiliate).
In the third, the first seven batters of the inning reached while West Michigan scored the 10 runs on five hits, three walks, three hit-by-pitches and an error. With 15 batters coming to the plate, the top of the inning lasted 30 minutes and 13 seconds.
Center fielder Woody Hadeen collected his second four-hit game of the series and third of the season, going 4-for-6 with a double and an RBI.
Designated hitter Roberto Campos, in his second game back off the injured list, went 3-for-6 with a pair of RBI singles and has driven in four in the last two games.
Starting pitcher Brady Smith (No. 15 Tigers prospect), making his Tigers organization debut following his trade from the Dodgers organization, struck out four, allowing two runs on two hits.
Fort Wayne (46-58, 19-20) third baseman Bradley Frye, for the second consecutive night, collected two hits, including his first High-A home run in the second. The two-run home run tied the game at two.
Smith then retired the next nine consecutive and 11 of the final 13 batters he saw in his outing.
Fort Wayne’s bullpen didn’t allow a run across the final five innings while the offense scored four runs, helped out by an RBI double by Luke Cantwell. Cantwell now has a base hit in 10 of his last 11 games, batting .387 across the stretch.
