Before the Rain: A Quick Check of Storm Drains Can Help Reduce Street Flooding
Fort Wayne, Indiana (June 17, 2026) – With heavy rainfall and high winds expected over the next few days, City Utilities is reminding residents that a quick check of nearby storm drains can help reduce street flooding.
Leaves, grass clippings, trash and other debris can block storm drains and keep rainwater from flowing into the system. When drains are clogged, water can back up onto streets and near homes, creating safety concerns and possible property damage.
Residents can help by safely clearing debris from storm drains near their homes and keeping leaves and grass clippings out of the street.
Standing water, street flooding or blocked drains that cannot be safely cleared should be reported to 311. If after normal business hours, listen for the prompts to reach a sewer dispatch team member.
