Location: the intersection of Broadway and Illsley Drive, Fort Wayne, Indiana
Time: 1405 hours
Details/Summary:
The Fort Wayne Police Department responded to a single-vehicle crash near Broadway and Illsley Drive on May 25, 2026, at approximately 2:05 p.m. Officers arrived to find an SUV partially off the roadway and against a telephone pole. A male driver and a female passenger were located inside the vehicle. Both sustained injuries from the crash and were transported to a local hospital. Medical personnel later determined the female passenger’s condition to be life-threatening.
The FACT Team and the Air Support Unit responded to assist with the investigation. Preliminary findings indicate the SUV was traveling southbound on Broadway when it left the west side of the roadway just north of Illsley Drive. The vehicle struck a telephone pole near the roadway’s edge, causing the airbags to deploy. The occupants were not wearing their seatbelts at the time of crash. Alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor. Investigators are also working to determine whether speed played a role and what caused the vehicle to leave the roadway.
