FWPD: Destructive Device, 1500 block Franklin Avenue

On July 1, 2025, at 1634 hours, the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to reports of a subject suffering from a mental health crisis in the 1500 block of Franklin Avenue.

Preliminary Charges:

  1. Level 5 Felony: Possession of a Destructive Device

Details/Summary:

Officers of the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to reports of a subject suffering from a mental health crisis in the 1500 block of Franklin Ave. Once inside the home officers observed what they believed to be a destructive device. The officers detained the suspect and backed out of the home to call for the Hazards Devices Unit (HDU). HDU entered the home where they secured the device rendering it inert. Officers also collected firearms that were in plain view under Indiana’s “Red Flag” law. The suspect was transported to a local hospital for medical clearance and ultimately booked into the Allen County Lock-up for Lvl 5 Felony Possession of a Destructive Device. There is no
further threat to the public at this time.

All criminal defendants are to be presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
