Giving Tuesday- The League engages small businesses for local economic impact

Fort Wayne, Indiana (November 29, 2021) – The League partners with local small businesses for its “Soaked in Generosity” campaign, focusing on local economy impact of pandemic. Encourages community to Donate local-Shop local-IMPACT local for tomorrow’s Giving Tuesday.

Last year, The League “Raised the Roof” for essential workers for its Giving Tuesday Campaign, raising nearly $25,000. With the pandemic still impacting daily lives of those served by The League and the local economy, The League is partnering with small businesses around the community for its “Soaked in Generosity: Every penny counts because every person counts” campaign.

John Guingrich, President/CEO of The League, and Garth Sponseller, DeafLink Director, will engage in a head-to-head challenge once again to meet individual goals of $5000 for the day, with the ultimate goal of beating last year’s donations including the matches. They will accomplish this by visiting nine area small businesses to meet hourly incremental goals to the total. If they do not meet the challenge, they will receive a special “soak” including things like honey/money, cream/sprinkles, caramel/nuts, etc. If they do, they will move on to their next destination without incident. Each dollar can double impact with a matching gift.

Along the way, host sites will have some promotions for Holiday Shopping, and The League will encourage the community to support local. Just as every penny counts for donations that impact its work, The League realizes the value of every penny in the local economy. Every dollar donated to local nonprofits and every dollar spent on local small businesses, will be what helps our community stay strong through the challenges of the pandemic.

The League invites the community to support local for Giving Tuesday. The gentlemen will be at the following locations through the day:

While donations, fundraiser revenue and more has been impacted by the pandemic, the need for services has increased. People with disabilities and others have looked to The League for help with accessible and affordable housing, adaptive equipment, and accessible accommodations such as ramps. With the housing market at a standstill, and people facing evictions, people with disabilities are at an increased risk of placement in nursing homes, and The League works to divert from these placements. Requests for information has increased more than 30%, no staff was furloughed, and the case coordinator caseloads has increased. Interpreters have continued to be on the front lines throughout the pandemic as well, including for COVID-19 testing, doctor’s visits, and funerals.

With the community’s support on Giving Tuesday, donations to The League or other local nonprofit organizations directly correlates to LOCAL IMPACT. The money stays local and impacts the lives of those neighbors who need services and supports most, especially at a critical time like the pandemic. Local businesses facing staffing shortages and supply challenges, are sometimes struggling to stay afloat. The time is now for the community to come together to donate local and shop local for this Giving Tuesday and Holiday shopping season to create substantial local economic and social impact.

To maximize impact, donations made to The League for Giving Tuesday will be matched by the AWS Foundation, 3Rivers FCU, NIPSCO, and is sponsored by Ambassador Enterprises.
