On July 17, 2021, at 6:36 pm, the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to Fourth Street, in front of Lawton Park, in reference to a vehicle accident involving a 4yr old boy.

On July 17, 2021 at approximately 06:36 PM officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to 4th Street, in front of Lawton Park, in reference to a vehicle accident involving a 4yr old boy.

A van was traveling east bound on 4th street, just in front of the entrance to Lawton Park. A 4-year-old boy attempt to cross the street heading south bound darted out in front of the van. The van was unable to stop in time and struck the boy. The boy sustained life threatening injuries and was immediately taken to Lutheran Hospital for medical treatment.

The Fort Wayne Police Department FACT was called out to the scene for a thorough investigation. Preliminary investigation indicates alcohol does not appear to be a factor.

This incident remains under investigation by the City of Fort Wayne Police. Fourth Street was closed during the investigation and is currently open to all traffic.
