Caution urged for vents outside homes
Allen County, Indiana (February 16, 2021) – The Allen County Building Department wants to remind everyone that snow-covered vents outside the home pose a danger. It has been a while since our area has received this much snow. Blowing and drifting have created a situation where residents should keep their furnace vents and heat pumps clear of snow to keep their heat running and prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.
It is best to use a broom or soft brush instead of a shovel to prevent the possibility of breaking off the exhaust pipe resulting in a costly service call.
