Downtown Improvement District news release:

PNC Foundation to support Downtown Improvement District COIVD-19 proactive safety efforts

(May 5, 2020) – The Fort Wayne Downtown Improvement District (D.I.D.) is pleased to announce support from the PNC Foundation to slow the spread of COVID-19 in Downtown Fort Wayne. The donation will help bolster essential services needed to sustain the D.I.D.’s commonly-touched outdoor surface sanitation program. This program is a proactive effort to provide public safety measures by engaging technicians to periodically sanitize outdoor surfaces in their ongoing cleaning and maintenance strategy.

“Like many communities across the country, our city is facing unprecedented challenges due to the crisis,” said Corinna Ladd, PNC regional president for northern Indiana. “We all have a critical role to play in helping keep our neighborhoods safe and secure.”

Utilizing a registered EPA and Certified American Chemistry Council Tier One disinfectant, which kills the virus a minute after contact, Clean & Green Program technicians will be spraying the following surfaces each week:

  • Newspaper Boxes
  • Streetscape Litter/Recycling/Cigarette Receptacles
  • Door Handles at Parking Garages
  • Cross Walk Signal Buttons
  • Bike Racks
  • Parking Meter Keypads
  • E-Scooters and Bike-share handles

We encourage everyone to stay safe during these difficult times and to visit the COVID-19 Resource Page on our Website.

About PNC Foundation
The PNC Foundation, which receives its principal funding from The PNC Financial Services Group (www.pnc.com), actively supports organizations that provide services for the benefit of communities in which it has a significant presence. The foundation focuses its philanthropic mission on early childhood education and community and economic development, which includes the arts and culture. Through Grow Up Great, its signature cause that began in 2004, PNC has created a bilingual $500 million, multi-year initiative to help prepare children from birth to age 5 for success in school and life.

About the Clean & Green Program
The Clean & Green Program delivers public realm stewardship and ambassador services which maintain, beautify and enhance the appearance of sidewalks, curbs and right-of-way via litter patrols, power washing and detailed cleaning and maintenance, e.g. weed and graffiti removal.

Through a dedicated team active 52 weeks a year and multiple public/private partnerships, the program coordinates and leverages cleaning and sanitation services in an effective and efficient manner.

We work closely with property and business owners in support of a clean, litter-free environment and partner with the City and County on built-environment issues including sidewalks, planters, bike racks, street trees and grates as well as litter/recycling receptacles and other streetscape additions.
