Vehicle Crash with Life-Threatening Injuries

Victims: Male and Female Adults with Life-Threatening Injuries
On Monday, 12/30/2019, at approximately 11:30 PM, the City of Fort Wayne Police Department responded to the intersection of West Coliseum Blvd. and Lima Road reference a vehicle crash with injuries. Witnesses reported one of the vehicles was on fire. Officers arrived on scene and observed the crash involved three passenger cars. One of the vehicles was on fire and officers rescued the male/adult driver out of the burning vehicle before firefighters arrived on scene. The driver was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. The second vehicle was occupied by a female/adult driver and a male/adult passenger. Both occupants were pinned inside the vehicle and had to be extricated by firefighters. The driver was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. The passenger was transported to a local hospital in serious condition. The male/adult driver of the third vehicle had a complaint of pain and refused medical treatment at the scene.
Preliminary information indicates one of the vehicles was traveling westbound on Coliseum Blvd. and failed to stop for the red traffic light at Lima Road. The vehicle entered the intersection and struck two vehicles that had the right-of-way on Lima Road.
Investigators reported alcohol and excessive speed appear to be contributing factors in the crash on behalf of the driver that failed to stop for the red traffic light. Investigators are interviewing witnesses and processing the scene. This incident remains under investigation by the City of Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. Westbound Coliseum Blvd. and southbound Lima Road will remain closed to all traffic.
