2016 TinCaps Season ReCap
Fort Wayne Completes Another Record-Setting Season

(September 12, 2016) — In the eighth season of TinCaps baseball at Parkview Field, the team completed another record-setting season. Though the longest active playoff streak among all Minor League and Major League Baseball teams came to a close at seven years, the TinCaps still provided plenty of highlights throughout the campaign.

 

2016 Organizational Honors

  • Parkview Field voted Best Class A Ballpark in Ballpark Digest poll
  • Top 25 in Minor League Baseball merchandise sales
  • Team President Mike Nutter received the Better Business Bureau serving Northern Indiana’s Individual of Integrity Award

 

2016 in the Seats at Parkview Field

  • Franchise record for regular-season and total attendance (413,701)
  • Franchise record for average attendance (6,084)
  • 21 sell-out crowds
  • No. 2 average attendance among all 100 Single-A/Rookie teams
  • Better average attendance than 12 of 30 Triple-A teams
  • Better average attendance than 28 of 30 Double-A teams
  • Seventh time in eight seasons at Parkview Field with attendance eclipsing 400,000
  • 9,026 fans on the Fourth of July – third largest home crowd in franchise history
  • Team welcomed 3,000,000th fan in TinCaps history

  • Franchise record for longest hitting streak (24 games)
  • Midwest League Player of the Month for April

  • 6th in the league in AVG (.320)

RHP J.C. Cosme

  • Midwest League Mid-Season All-Star (SP for Eastern Division)

RHP Enyel De Los Santos

  • Midwest League Mid-Season All-Star

CF Michael Gettys

  • Midwest League Mid-Season All-Star

RHP Jake Nix

  • Midwest League Mid-Season All-Star
  • Best Breaking Pitch in Midwest League (Baseball America)

3B Carlos Belen

  • Midwest League Player of the Week (August 8-14)
  • Best Infield Arm in Midwest League (Baseball America)

OF Jhonatan Peña

  • Midwest League Player of the Week (June 20-26)
  • First ever TinCap to homer in four consecutive games (June 23-26)

 

2016 on the Field – Team Accomplishments

  • 20 TinCaps players earned promotions in the San Diego Padres system
  • Of the current Padres Top 30 prospects, per MLB.com, 12 played with the TinCaps
  • Eight walk-off wins, including five in a span of 17 home games (July 30-Sept. 1) in the second half

 

The 2017 Midwest League season begins on April 6 when the TinCaps square off with the Lansing Lugnuts on the road. The TinCaps return to Fort Wayne to host the Lugnuts in the home opener on Saturday, April 8 at 6:05 p.m. at Parkview Field.
