By Mike Monaco

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (June 8, 2016) — TinCaps All-Stars Michael Gettys and Austin Allen combined for six hits, four runs and four RBIs and propelled Fort Wayne to a 6-2 win over the Bowling Green Hot Rods (Tampa Bay Rays) on Wednesday afternoon at Bowling Green Ballpark.

The TinCaps (33-26) climbed out to an early lead in the first inning and never trailed en route to the win in the middle meeting in the three-game series with the Hot Rods (29-29). Fort Wayne has matched a season-best with a four-game winning streak and won seven of its last eight games. The TinCaps began the day in fourth place in the Midwest League’s Eastern Division — 3.5 games behind first-place South Bend and 2.5 games behind second-place West Michigan.

Gettys (4-for-4, 4 1B, 2 R) and Allen (2-for-5, HR, 4 RBIs) carried the offense, while the Fort Wayne bullpen turned in five shutout frames.

Allen supplied an RBI groundout in the top of the first inning to start the scoring. Leadoff man Kodie Tidwell reeled in first baseman Ty France with an RBI groundout of his own in the top of the second to stretch the lead to 2-0.

The Hot Rods tied the game, 2-2, in the fourth, and the TinCaps snatched the lead back in the seventh when Allen teed off on a two-run home run off Armando Bastardo (L, 0-1) — his second shot in the last four games — to right-center field to make it 4-2.

Fort Wayne took out an insurance policy with two more tallies in the top of the ninth. Allen plated Gettys with an RBI double tugged down the right-field line. Allen later scored on a sacrifice fly from right fielder Jhonatan Peña.

TinCaps righty Blake Rogers (W, 1-0) delivered four sterling innings of shutout ball in relief of starter Logan Allen, who allowed two runs over four stanzas. Righty Nick Monroe spun a scoreless ninth.
