Fort Wayne Pulls Ahead in Three-Run Eighth Inning
By David Kenyon

(June 5, 2016) – The TinCaps used a three-run eighth inning to claim a 4-1 win and a series victory against the Dayton Dragons on Sunday afternoon at Parkview Field.

Dayton (14-43) issued three straight walks to Ty France, Kodie Tidwell and Peter Van Gansen in the eighth frame that proved costly.

Michael Gettys started the scoring with an RBI single, then Austin Allen and Carlos Belen followed with consecutive sacrifice flies for Fort Wayne (31-26), which won five of six during the homestand.

It was the 15th come-from-behind win of the season.

Thomas Dorminy pitched six strong innings, ceding just one run while striking out six.

Jerry Keel (W, 3-4) earned the victory after holding the Dragons without a hit in two frames. Gerardo Reyes (S, 2) picked up the save, capping the TinCaps win with a strikeout.

Brad Zunica went 2-for-3 and was also hit by a pitch, adding an RBI single that plated Allen in the bottom of the fourth. Gettys notched his fifth three-hit outing of the season.

Dayton reliever Ariel Hernandez (L, 0-1) surrendered three runs in his 1.1 innings. Shane Mardirosian managed an RBI groundout for the Dragons’ lone tally during the fourth.

Fort Wayne has now taken or split eight of nine series at Parkview Field in 2016.
