Game recap from the TinCaps:
Fort Wayne Winning Streak Ends at Lake County
Tidwell Extends Hitting Streak to Eight Games
EASTLAKE, Ohio (May 28, 2016) – The TinCaps had a lead on Saturday night at Classic Park, but it didn’t last long in an eventual 14-4 loss to the Lake County Captains. The setback snapped a modest two-game winning streak for Fort Wayne.
Shortstop Kodie Tidwell led the game off with a single, which extended his hitting streak to eight games. Second baseman Ty Moore and center fielder Michael Gettys singled as well to load the bases. Catcher Austin Allen grounded out to second to score Tidwell for the game’s first run. The TinCaps, however, stranded Gettys and Moore in scoring position.
Lake County (28-21) tied the game, 1-1, with two outs in the bottom of the first inning as catcher Francisco Mejia plated left fielder Ka’ai Tom on a triple. The Captains hit six doubles, three triples, and a home run in the game. In comparison, Fort Wayne had one extra-base hit.
The home team struck for four runs with two outs against TinCaps starter Logan Allen (L, 3-3) in the third to take a 5-1 lead. Lake County stretched its lead to 6-1 with another run in the third.
Fort Wayne (25-24) trimmed the deficit to 6-4 in the top of the sixth thanks to RBI hits from first baseman Ty France, designated hitter Brad Zunica, and third baseman Nick Vilter. But the Captains did them one better with four runs in the bottom of the inning. Lake County turned it into a route with a run in the seventh and three unearned runs in the eighth.
The Captains out-hit the TinCaps, 15-9. Fort Wayne committed all three of the game’s errors.
Casey Shane (W, 5-1) went the first 5 1/3 innings for Lake County and struck out seven.
The TinCaps are now 2-3 on their seven-game road trip.
