Game recap from the TinCaps:

TinCaps Come Back Late in Lansing to Win
Three Homers Power Fort Wayne in 5-3 Victory

LANSING, Mich. (May 26, 2016) РFrom 3-0 down at the end of six innings, the TinCaps rallied late to beat the Lansing Lugnuts, 5-3, on Thursday night at Cooley Law School Stadium. Homers from Michael Gettys, Austin Allen, and Jhonatan Pe̱a powered Fort Wayne to the comeback win.

Peña launched a two-run homer in the top of the ninth with one out to break a 3-3 tie. It was the 22-year-old right fielder’s first home run of the season in his 29th game. He pulled it just barely over the left-field fence off Lugnuts closer Dusty Isaacs (L, 1-1). Initially, Peña stopped at second until the base umpire Mac Dietz confirmed it was gone. The longball scored first baseman Ty France, who had singled one batter before.

Fort Wayne (24-23) tied the game earlier in the ninth when Allen led off with a blast against Isaacs that cleared the 23-foot high fence in right. The 24-year-old Isaacs came on in the ninth having not allowed an earned run in 21 innings pitched this season.

The TinCaps’ power surge began in the eighth, as Gettys hit a two-out shot off Staryln Suriel way past the left-field wall to make it 2-1. This was the first time this season Fort Wayne hit three home runs in a game.

Lansing (24-21) hit the game’s first homer in the first inning when leadoff batter Gunnar Heidt took starter Thomas Dorminy deep. The Lugnuts added an unearned run in that opening frame and scored again in the fourth to go up, 3-0.

Lugnuts starter Sean Reid-Foley went a career-long seven innings and was unscored upon until the seventh. In that inning, Peña brought Allen in from third on a fielder’s choice groundout to short. Allen started that inning with a single. He moved up to second on a single by designated hitter Brad Zunica and to third on a France flyout.
Ultimately, the TinCaps had the better bullpen. Emmanuel Ramirez relieved Dorminy in the sixth with two scoreless innings. Phil Maton (W, 1-1) followed suit in the eighth and ninth.
