Three-Game Winning Streak Comes to an End
MIDLAND, Mich. (April 11, 2016) – The TinCaps’ three-game winning streak ended with a 3-1 loss to the Great Lakes Loons at Dow Diamond on Tuesday night.
Great Lakes (2-1) jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a run in each of the first two innings against Walker Lockett (L, 0-1). Only the first run was earned, however. Lockett struck out six batters over six innings of work.
The Loons lead grew to 3-0 in the seventh with Nick Monroe on the mound for Fort Wayne. In just two innings, Monroe fanned six as well in his 2016 TinCaps debut.Fort Wayne (3-3) scored its lone run in the top of the eighth inning as first baseman Ty France drove in center fielder Michael Gettys from second base with two outs. France finished the game with a game-high three hits, including a pair of doubles.
The TinCaps entered the game with a Minor League Baseball-best 36 runs scored. But on this 40-degree night, Great Lakes pitchers struck out 15 Fort Wayne batters. The TinCaps were 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position and left nine runners on base, which counted one in the ninth.
Adam Bray (W, 1-0) received credit for the win with 2 1/3 innings in relief of Andrew Sopko, who went the first 4 2/3 frames. Gavin Pittore (S, 1) tossed the final two innings for the save.
