News release from the History Center:

Dr. Timothy Lake presents at February George R. Mather Sunday Lecture

The historical relationship between black and white populations in Indiana were not always as segregated as one would initially think. Dr. Timothy Lake, the February speaker for the History Center’s George R. Mather Sunday Lecture, has been working with students at Wabash College to research and document the cultural influence Blacks had on an early Indiana. In this ongoing project, students have investigated everything from grave markers to national landmark signs.

In his presentation on Sunday, February 7 at 2pm, Finding Things Left Behind: Indiana’s African American Public Markers, Dr. Lake shares the research findings of his students, the cultural context in which these historical landmarks formed, and the ongoing impact they have on our communities today.

The George R. Mather Sunday Lecture Series is free and open to the public.
