TinCaps ReCap: Gettys plates two for TinCaps
EASTLAKE, Ohio (July 21, 2015) – Fort Wayne fell to the Lake County Captains, 3-2, on Tuesday night at Classic Park in the opener of a three-game series. Michael Gettys drove in both runs for the TinCaps.
Lake County (9-16, 45-48) broke a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the fifth with a two-out solo homer from left fielder Anthony Santander. It came just after Fort Wayne starter Dinelson Lamet (L, 3-5) had retired Nick Swisher on a grounder to second base. The Cleveland Indians slugger played right field for the first five innings, rehabbing from a left knee injury.
The TinCaps, who out-hit the Captains 9-4 on the night, got the tying run to second base in the top of the ninth with no outs, but failed to tie the game. After third baseman Luis Tejada led off with a single and advanced to second on a wild pitch, Cameron Hill (S, 5) struck out consecutive batters and induced a groundout to end it.
Fort Wayne (14-12, 46-48) initially had a 1-0 lead when Gettys singled off Anderson Polanco (W, 5-6) to score Jose Ruiz in the top of the third. Ruiz had a game-high three hits.
The Captains, however, tied the game in the bottom of the third with a two-out Santander double to score Swisher, who had walked. The home side jumped in front in the fourth with an RBI single from Yu-Cheng Chang. Gettys then tied it in the top of the fifth with a groundout that plated Edwin Moreno from third base.
The TinCaps — who’ve lost three consecutive games by a run and four in a row overall — and Captains are back at it on Wednesday morning at 11:00. Fort Wayne right-hander Michael Kelly (5-2, 4.44) is slated to start against lefty Thomas Pannone (4-4, 3.89). The game can be heard on ESPN Radio 1380, Box Score, and the TuneIn Radio app.
