News Release from the TinCaps:
Kelly Leads TinCaps to Series Victory
(July 1, 2015) – The TinCaps beat the Bowling Green Hot Rods, 7-1, on Wednesday afternoon at Parkview Field in the rubber match of their three-game series. Starter Michael Kelly didn’t allow an earned run over a career-high seven innings on the mound, while Fort Wayne scored all of its runs in the fourth inning. The TinCaps now have won six consecutive series at home.
As Kelly (W, 4-1) was putting up zeros, the TinCaps broke out of a recent offensive slump with a six-hit, seven-run fourth. Shortstop Ruddy Giron put the exclamation point on the frame with a three-run home run — his seventh in 40 games — that made it 7-0. Earlier in the inning, right fielder Franmil Reyes, center fielder Edwin Moreno, and third baseman Felipe Blanco each drove in a run, while another scored on an error.
Fort Wayne (4-3, 36-39) did its damage against right-hander Enderson Franco (L, 5-6), who had allowed a total of six earned runs over his previous four starts.
For the day, eight different TinCaps accounted for the team’s nine hits. Catcher Michael Miller tallied two.
Bowling Green (3-4, 40-37) scored its lone, unearned run in the top of the fifth inning.
Kelly, who scattered seven hits and a walk with one strikeout, has worked 17 1/3 consecutive innings without allowing an earned run. Left-hander Kyle McGrath came on in relief for two scoreless innings.
The TinCaps have won 8 of their last 11 games and aim to stay hot on the road against the Dayton Dragons on Thursday night at 7:00. Righty Chris Huffman (3-3, 2.97) is scheduled to start for Fort Wayne, while Dayton counters with righty Tejay Antone (4-6, 2.56). The game can be heard on ESPN Radio 1380, TinCaps.com, and the TuneIn Radio app beginning at 6:45.
