Angie Fincannon Joins IPFW as Vice Chancellor for Advancement

(June 8, 2015) — Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) proudly welcomes Angie Fincannon, Ed.D., as the new Vice Chancellor for Advancement. She will oversee the offices of Alumni, Development, and Marketing Communications. She begins her position July 15.

“Angie brings an outstanding mix of skills and experience to this very important position. I look forward to working with her as we continue pursuing our vision for IPFW’s future,” said Chancellor Vicky L. Carwein.

Fincannon currently serves as the athletic director at Taylor University, leading a department with 18 sports, 55 coaches, and 350 student-athletes. Her experience includes teaching, coaching, fundraising, and academic and athletic administration.

“I am very excited to be joining the Fort Wayne and IPFW communities. It is evident to me that IPFW is positioned for great things during this time and under leadership of Chancellor Vicky Carwein,” she said in an email. “I am appreciative to the chancellor, the advancement and marketing departments, and the search committee for their confidence in me as I step into this very important role for IPFW.”

During her career, Fincannon provided leadership in the strategic planning and implementation of several large fundraising projects. As athletic director, she led an effort to establish a strategic plan for Taylor’s athletic facilities. Once the plan was developed, she worked beside various colleagues and donors to distribute approximately $7 million for the revitalization of the athletics facilities.

She earned bachelors, master’s, and Ed.D. degrees at Ball State University in Muncie, Ind. Her dissertation evaluated leadership styles of female school superintendents in Indiana using the Kouzes and Posner Leadership Practices Inventory (LPI).

As a member of the Taylor University family for the past 23 years, there have been numerous accomplishments. The one she’s most proud of, she says, are her years spent as head coach of the Taylor University volleyball program, when she led teams to an overall record of 496-131, four national tournament appearances, and one venture into the Elite 8. She was named the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletic Administrators Athletic Director of the Year (NAIA) in 2014.

Originally from Grant County, Ind., raised in Van Buren, and currently residing in Muncie, she loves sports, exercising, fishing, and collecting antique fishing lures. “You might find me enthralled at an auction every now and then,” Fincannon said.
