TinCaps falls in opener at Wisconsin

GRAND CHUTE, Wisc. (June 6, 2015) – The TinCaps fell to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, 4-2, on Saturday night in the opening game of their three-game series at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium. The loss ended Fort Wayne’s modest two-game winning streak.

Wisconsin (17-39) took a 3-0 lead off the bat in the first inning. Sthervin Matos put the Rattlers on the board with a two-run home run. Later, Jake Gatewood hit an RBI-double.

Fort Wayne (23-32) had a quick response in the top of the second, scoring twice. Right fielder Franmil Reyes led off with a walk followed by an Edwin Moreno single. Catcher Miguel Del Castillo doubled to plate Reyes, while second baseman Felipe Blanco grounded out to score Moreno.

The only other run on the night came in the fourth when Wisconsin’s Elvis Rubio hit a solo homer.

Devin Williams (W, 1-3) went 5 2/3 innings for the win. Angel Ventura (S, 2) worked 3 innings out of the bullpen. Although he matched career highs with six strikeouts in 6 innings, Thomas Dorminy (L, 5-4) took the loss. Yimmi Brasoban fanned two in 2 shutout innings.

In the loss, Santos and Moreno both had two hits.

The TinCaps and T-Rats continue their series on Sunday at 2:05 p.m. Fort Wayne is set to start right-hander Ernesto Montas (4-4, 4.47) against Cy Sneed (2-7, 2.52). The game can be heard on ESPN Radio 1380, Box Score, and the TuneIn Radio app.
