1st Annual Doggone Best Chili Challenge Gets Fired Up

(August 5, 2014) – A chili cook-off to benefit the Allen County SPCA will be held at Lucky Harley Davidson, 6315 Illinois Road (at I-69) in Fort Wayne on Saturday, September 27 from noon – 3:00 p.m.

The chili challenge will feature chili ranging from mild to wild prepared by individuals, firehouses, community groups and teams from the Chili Appreciation Society International (CASI). Chili fans will be sampling their wares and casting their votes to decide who has the “best doggone chili”.

In addition to the People’s Choice competition, there will be other competition divisions such as firehouse chili, vegetarian chili and even showmanship.

“It doesn’t matter if you like your chili hot or mild, with or without beans, or even vegetarian,” says Bob Hoffman, chairman of the event. “There will be something here for everyone, and it’s all for a great cause.”

Every dollar raised at this event will benefit the Allen County SPCA, which provides stray and surrendered cats and dogs in the community with food, shelter, medical attention and a chance to be adopted into a new family. From January through the end of July, the Allen County SPCA has found homes for over 1244 cats and dogs.

The entire event is open to the public. Admission is only $5 for adults and includes unlimited chili tastings. Children under the age of 10 are free. Maple Creek Middle School’s the “Maple Creek Islanders” will be performing. There will also be a silent auction, a live radio broadcast, a kissing dog booth, and an adoption event for dogs.

The event’s website is www.doggonebestchili.org.
