Four Finalists for Athletic Director Announced

(December 13, 2013) – The search committee charged with finding the next athletic director for Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) has released an update on the national search, announcing four candidates who will advance as finalists for the position.

The finalists are Kelley Hartley Hutton, Daron Montgomery, Nona Richardson, and Mark Spencer.

“We believe that these four candidates are highly qualified to be the new athletic director at IPFW,” said Dan Gebhart, comptroller. “As committee chair, it has been a great honor to serve my alma mater in this capacity, and I am proud to be part of a committee that has a hand in choosing the next leader of our growing athletic program.”

Hartley Hutton has been the interim director of athletics at IPFW since August, and previously served as the school’s senior woman administrator from July 1999 until March 2012. She is also the head coach of the Mastodon women’s volleyball program, and has amassed a record of 314-162 in 15 seasons.

Montgomery is currently the director of athletics at Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Prior to working at UW-Stevens Point, he worked at the University of Detroit Mercy in roles of increasing responsibility, culminating at the senior associate athletic director position.

Richardson is currently serving in the capacity of executive senior associate athletic director and senior woman administrator at the University of California-Davis, and spent 13 months at the school as interim athletic director. From October 2002 through April 2007 she was the associate athletic director and senior woman administrator at Ball State University.

Spencer is currently the senior associate athletic director at Oregon State University, a role he has held since October 2010. He has been at Oregon State since 2006, also serving as associate athletic director prior to his promotion. Previously he worked at Saint Louis University as assistant (November 2002-July 2006) and associate (July 2006-August 2006) athletic director.

Campus visits will begin in January, with Spencer coming to campus on January 21-22, Hartley Hutton on January 23-24, Richardson on January 26-27, and Montgomery on January 30-31. Specifics of the candidates’ itinerary will be released in early January.

The athletic director search committee is comprised of Gebhart, student-athlete Malcolm White, women’s studies professor Janet Badia, faculty athletic representative Elliott Blumenthal, men’s basketball coach Tony Jasick, senior women’s administrator Christine Kuznar, accounting faculty member Cynthia Lloyd, office of institutional equity member Christine Marcuccilli, women’s soccer coach Margaret Saurin, compliance officer Wendy Wilson, Indiana-Purdue Student Government Association representative Raija Ochola, and external members Rick Evans and Larry Lee.
