The National Weather Service has upgraded the Winter Storm Watch to a Winter Storm Warning:

…WINTER STORM TO IMPACT THE AREA TUESDAY AND TUESDAY NIGHT…

A STRONG STORM SYSTEM CURRENTLY TAKING SHAPE ACROSS THE NORTHERN ROCKIES WILL APPROACH THE MIDDLE MISSISSIPPI RIVER VALLEY BY EARLY TOMORROW. SNOW WILL OVERSPREAD THE AREA FROM WEST TO EAST TOMORROW MORNING AND WILL CONTINUE THROUGH LATE TOMORROW EVENING BEFORE DIMINISHING IN INTENSITY EARLY WEDNESDAY MORNING. ACCUMULATIONS OF 5-8 INCHES ARE EXPECTED IN THE WARNING AREA WITH 3-5 INCHES IN THE ADVISORY AREA.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN NORTHERN INDIANA HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR HEAVY SNOW…WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 10 AM TUESDAY TO 10 AM EST WEDNESDAY. THE WINTER STORM WATCH IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT.

HAZARDOUS WEATHER…

* TIMING…LIGHT SNOW IS EXPECTED TO DEVELOP AFTER SUNRISE TUESDAY MORNING. THE SNOW WILL PICK UP IN COVERAGE AND INTENSITY DURING THE MID TO LATE MORNING HOURS TUESDAY. THE PERIOD OF HEAVIEST SNOW IS EXPECTED LATE TUESDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH A PORTION OF THE OVERNIGHT HOURS TUESDAY NIGHT.

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS…STORM TOTAL SNOW ACCUMULATIONS OF 5 TO 8 INCHES ARE POSSIBLE BY LATE TUESDAY NIGHT.

* PERIODS OF MODERATE TO HEAVY SNOW WILL RESULT IN SNOW COVERED ROADS AND HAZARDOUS TRAVEL CONDITIONS.
