Updated statement from the NWS

National Weather Service

The National Weather Service has issued an updated Special Weather Statement:

SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NORTHERN INDIANA
759 PM EST SUN MAR 3 2013

…WINTER STORM EXPECTED TO IMPACT OUR AREA TUESDAY AND TUESDAY NIGHT…

A BROAD AREA OF LOW PRESSURE MOVING INTO THE HIGH PLAINS TONIGHT IS EXPECTED TO STRENGTHEN AND MOVE INTO THE OHIO VALLEY TUESDAY. LIGHT PRECIPITATION MAY REACH A KNOX TO MARION INDIANA LINE BEFORE DAWN TUESDAY… WITH HEAVIER PRECIPITATION OVERSPREADING THE AREA DURING THE DAY. A LAYER OF WARMER AIR WILL MOVE INTO OUR AREA AHEAD OF THE LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM… WHICH MAY RESULT IN A MIXTURE OF SLEET AND SNOW SOUTH OF ROUTE 6 EARLY TUESDAY… BUT BY TUESDAY AFTERNOON COLDER AIR ALOFT SHOULD CHANGE THE PRECIPITATION TO ALL SNOW ACROSS THE ENTIRE AREA.

MUCH OF OUR AREA WILL LIKELY SEE SEVERAL INCHES OF NEW SNOW ACCUMULATION TUESDAY AND TUESDAY NIGHT… WITH THE POTENTIAL FOR 4 TO 6 INCHES OR MORE EXISTING WHERE THE HEAVIEST BAND OF SNOW SETS UP.

THE TRACK OF THE LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL DETERMINE WHERE THE HEAVIEST SNOW WILL FALL AND THIS REMAINS UNCERTAIN AT THIS TIME…SO ANYONE PLANNING TO TRAVEL TUESDAY AND TUESDAY NIGHT SHOULD LISTEN FOR THE LATEST FORECASTS OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS.
