Association offers valuable training and education

The Apartment Association of Fort Wayne-NE Indiana (AAFW-NEI) continues its educational programs designed for area individuals employed in the multi-family rental industry. February offerings include:

Crime Awareness & Self Defense (4 CEC’s)
February 12, 2013 (12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.)
Leo Jehl Education Training Center, 3106 Lake Avenue
Instructor: Officer Juan Barrientes, FWPD

Keeping your residents and your property safe are a huge priority, but sometimes we forget about one of our biggest assets – staff. This class will give wonderful insight into prevalent crimes in our area, how to recognize the signs, and what to do if your property or company is affected. In addition, a hands-on self defense portion of this class will make sure staff knows how to keep themselves safe in any questionable situation. ***Space is limited!***

 

Mice, Birds & Bugs (2 CEC’s)

The colder time of year brings different residents to our properties, including unwelcome ones! Join our instructors as they talk about mice and pests that seek the warmth and shelter of our buildings during the winter. Birds have also been a common nuisance on properties this past season and our instructors will explore that as well. This class will answer many of your questions as well as have a Q&A for any of the special situations you have encountered.

 

Handling Emergencies (2 CEC’s)

Disaster can strike quickly and without warning. It can force you to evacuate your residents and change the way you operate your property or business. It will also be essential to communicate information to others, residents and employees. What would you do if basic services — water, gas, electricity or telephones — were cut off? What would you do if there were another flu outbreak or health emergency? Local officials and relief workers are always available to help, but they cannot reach everyone right away. Knowing what to do to protect yourself, your residents, and your employees is essential. This course will cover: Disaster – Tips · Emergency Procedure · Warnings · Communication with the Media · How to be Proactive

 

Educational programs are open to both members and non-members of the Association. The programs listed above are each FREE to Education Subscribers, $45 for each non-subscriber attendee, or $90 per person for those who do not currently belong to the Association.
