News release from Indiana Michigan Power:

June 29 Severe Thunderstorm Update: 10:30 PM, 7/3/2012

I&M restored 5,000 customers to service since our last report at 4 p.m. Please note our request for any customers who live outside of Allen County who have not had power restored to call our Customer Solutions Center number at 1-800-311-4634.

As of 10 p.m. Tuesday, I&M restored service to more than 93,000 of the customers that lost service as a result of Friday’s storm with about 25,000 customers currently without electric service across the I&M service area. More than 53,000 customers in the Fort Wayne areas have had service restored.

Restoration for Allen County is as follows: 80% of all customers restored by late Wednesday night. Restoration will continue through the weekend for conditions that affect small pockets of customers and individual properties.

If you use a portable or RV generator, do not plug the generator into your circuit box. Portable generators “backfeed” electricity up the line and risk the lives of repair workers and the public. Follow the manufacturers’ instructions carefully, and plug essential appliances directly into the generator. See additional information about use of backup generators.

Customers living in counties other than Allen County who are still without service since June 30 are encouraged to call 800-311-4634 and report their outage again.

Electric consumers who have had power restored are asked to turn on their porch lights so that patrolling service technicians can better spot residences that are still without power in the neighborhood.

Indiana Michigan Power cannot connect power to any home or business where there is damage to the service entrance. The service entrance is the area located 1) at the meter, 2) between the meter and the home’s electrical panel, or 3) the location where Indiana Michigan Power’s cable connects to the home/business owner’s cable. Customers need to have a qualified electrician repair this damage before power can be restored to the home or business.

Electric consumers are asked to report their outage again if they have not called within the past 24 hours. This will ensure that all consumers’ electricity is restored as quickly as possible.
