News release from Allen County Board of Commissioners:

Sign Up for County Dust Control Program Begins April 4
Less expensive calcium chloride to be used on roads

(March 16, 2011) – Allen County residents who want the County Highway Department to apply dust control material to their stone and gravel roads this spring will be able to sign up beginning April 4.

The Highway Department will charge $1.06 per linear foot for a minimum 200 foot application of calcium chloride. Last year, the department charged $1.00 per linear foot for an application of asphalt emulsion.

“The County has changed from the asphalt emulsion to calcium chloride for two reasons,” said Bill Hartman, Highway Department Director. “The calcium chloride will be less expensive for residents this year compared to the rising cost of the asphalt emulsion. Also, it’s easier for our department to maintain.”

The Highway Department will schedule with the supplier to begin placing the dust control material May 3, depending on weather and road conditions. It will be applied in two treatments and will span the full width of the road.

Residents can sign up for the applications in person April 4-29 at the following locations:
