What’s Happening at the Botanical Conservatory in April

Peter Pan Exhibit: Through April 10
Join Peter Pan this winter at the Conservatory as he whisks Wendy, John, and Michael Darling away to Neverland. There they meet Peter’s loyal Lost Boys and the tiny fairy Tinker Bell, have adventures with the Indian princess Tiger Lily, and battle the evil Captain Hook. Explore the Lost Boys’ camp, the Indian Tribe’s village, and the Pirates’ ship – a sort of playground in the midst of the winter gardens. Watch out for the Croc! Easter Seals Arc Eggstravaganza: April 1 – 24
Visit the Conservatory to see the amazing works of art hatched for the Easter Seals Arc display and auction. Large “eggs” are decorated by local artists to help raise money for this social service agency. The styles range from elegant to whimsical. Vote for “Most Eggsquisite,” “Best of Shell,” and “Cracks You Up.” Regular admission is $5/adult, $3/child age 3-17, free for children 2 and under.

Botanical Brew Competition: On-line Registration Begins April 1
Bring us your best bottle of brew! Our 4th annual Botanical Brew Competition will be held in early June. The competition is sanctioned and will follow the guidelines set forth by the American Homebrewers Association and the Beer Judge Certification Program. On-line registration begins April 1 with entry drop-off on May 28 – June 4. Winners will be announced at 5:30 pm on June 12 during the Botanical Brew & Q. Science Fun for Everyone: Under Pressure
Saturday, April 2 and 16, 11 am & 1 pm; and Thursday, April 28, 6 pm
It’s more than just a song by Queen – it’s a force of nature! Pressure is all around us, squeezing SCUBA divers, forcing up fountains, reforming rocks, and doing all kinds of other exciting things. Discover all the amazing ways pressure is shaping the world around you and some fun ways to make it work for you at home. You’re sure to have a blast! April $1 Night
Thursday, April 7, 5-8 pm
On the first Thursday evening of the month, visitors can enjoy a reduced admission price for all their guests ages 3 and up. This month, enjoy the Peter Pan exhibit, the Easter Seals Arc Eggstravaganza, and the Tropical and Desert Gardens. Children 2 and under are admitted free.

Butterflies of Belize Exhibit: April 16 – June 26
The tropical forests of Central America are home to thousands of species of butterflies and moths. In the nation of Belize, where one can travel from mangrove swamps on the Caribbean Sea up to the tropical forests of the Maya Mountains, one can find such spectacular varieties as the iridescent Blue Morpho butterfly, the well-named Owl Butterfly that feeds on overripe fruit at dawn and dusk, and the dainty, transparent glasswing. When you visit the Conservatory you can enjoy both North American and Central American butterflies in the butterfly exhibit tent as part of your general admission. Easter in the Garden Friday, April 22, 10 am – 3 pm
Hop on down to the Botanical Conservatory with your camera and your children to meet the Easter Bunny. Enjoy our Butterflies of Belize exhibit, play games for prizes, make crafts, pot a plant and enjoy light refreshments. From 10:30 am-2:30 pm look for Easter eggs in our annual Easter Egg Hunt for toddlers through elementary ages. Enter our drawing for a chance to win a “sweet” Easter basket. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Regular Conservatory admission applies. Sponsored by WAJI Majic 95.1FM and Media 401. April Art Exhibit: Brian Malone Through April 29
Brian is a huge fan of photography, nature, and the arts and has studied visual Arts at IPFW. He hopes that the viewer enjoys his images as much as he does. Brian has always said, “You don’t need an expensive camera to be a photographer, just a good eye for what you find beautiful.” Get to know local and regional artists through the Botanical Conservatory’s bi-monthly art exhibits in a variety of media. Displays may be viewed during public hours. Artwork may be purchased by contacting the artist. Bagel Station Uptown

Pair a memorable garden visit with a tasty lunch or delightful dessert. The Bagel Station Uptown is located inside the Conservatory gift shop, on Calhoun Street. The menu includes homemade soups, salad, panini, deli sandwiches, hand-rolled bagels, cookies, pastries, Copper Moon coffees, and other beverage choices. They also offer boxed lunches and catering services. Café seating is available in the atrium or, during weekday lunchtimes, in the Saguaro Room.
