USF may match cash awards in scholastic competition

(March 1, 2011) – High school juniors, seniors and graduates who decide to pursue health career studies at the University of Saint Francis (USF) can see cash awards doubled if their entries win one of three top awards in the university’s fifth annual Scholastic Competition.

USF’s School of Health Sciences (SOHS) will match a $1,000 first prize and $500 second and third prizes from the Parkview Health Alliance for winning students who enroll in SOHS health careers programs.

To participate, students must submit a 1,000-word essay in standard American English, explaining the motivating factors in their plans to become healthcare professionals. Essays must be in 12-point font, double-spaced on white paper with references cited and attached to a completed application. Submissions may also consist of a disk containing 25-45 PowerPoint slides with references cited and attached to a completed application.

Entries must be postmarked by April 4 and sent to the attention of Mari Sanders of the SOHS Recruitment Committee, University of Saint Francis, 2701 Spring St., Fort Wayne, IN 46808. Winners and high school guidance counselors will be notified May 5.

High school students and their parents or adult supporters are invited to explore the University of Saint Francis (USF) as a college choice during Spring Campus Visit Day on Saturday, March 26.

Students are invited to bring their college transcripts for an evaluation while taking advantage of a range of meetings and activities tailored to enlighten prospective college students on the features and advantages of a USF education.

Students and their supporters can visit with faculty members, discuss financial aid, investigate academic programs, tour the beautiful 108-acre campus and discover possibilities for involvement in USF’s 16 intercollegiate athletic programs.

Check-in begins at 8:45 a.m. at the USF North Campus and activities, including a light lunch and mini-fair with the offices of Financial Aid, Student Services, Student Activities and Athletics, will run from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
