Lugar meets with Indiana Municipal Power Association

News release from US Senator Richard Lugar:

Lugar Meets with Indiana Municipal Power Association

(Washington D.C. – March 2, 2011) – On March 1, 2011, U.S. Sen. Dick Lugar met with Indiana mayors, council members, and other Hoosiers on their visit to Washington, DC with the Indiana Municipal Power Association.

The group detailed to Lugar the progress Indiana communities are making at saving money by saving energy in Indiana. They also discussed the need to stop the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) from unilaterally regulating greenhouse gas emissions.

“Hoosier communities in the Indiana Municipal Power Association are showing that there are solutions to our energy crisis,” said Lugar. “Hoosiers can save money by saving energy, leaving more money in their hands and making the state more competitive.”

During the meeting, Lugar noted another milestone in high gas prices. The national average retail price for regular grade gasoline on Monday, February 28, was $3.38 per gallon, an increase of 19 cents per gallon from the previous Monday. This was the second largest one-week increase since the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) began tracking weekly retail gasoline price data in 1990.

For more than a decade, Lugar has stressed the strategic importance of energy security and the economic and security risks of dependence on oil. His legislative efforts promote increased fuel economy, sustainable energy production and use, incentives for renewable fuels like cellulosic ethanol and E85, and clean coal.
