Lanah K. Hake to Lead United Way’s Learn United Initiative

(July 16, 2010) – United Way of Allen County has hired Fort Wayne native Lanah K. Hake as its new Director of Education Initiatives; she is charged with leading the organization’s Learn United initiative. Hake oversees United Way of Allen County’s efforts to improve the reading skills of children across Allen County. In particular, Hake manages Learn United, a 10-year initiative focused on building a broad base of community volunteers via www.LearnUnited.org who are matched with local children needing literacy support.

Hake has more than a decade of experience working on a variety of national and state public policy issues, including health policy for the state of Colorado and a range of social policy issues, including poverty and disparities for the New Zealand government. She has a bachelor’s degree from Indiana University’s School of Public and Environmental Affairs and a master’s degree in International Relations from Victoria University in Wellington, New Zealand, where she lived for four years prior to returning to Fort Wayne.

“We are excited to have Lanah on board,” said United Way Board President Ron Turpin. “Her depth and breadth of experience will help us strengthen and expand our Learn United initiative so we can help as many local children as possible.”
