Press release from the Allen County Board of Commissioners:

Aboite Ctr. First Phase Completion Pushed Back to Aug. 11
Despite delay, entire project expected to finish by mid-October

(July 9, 2010) – The completion of the first phase of the Aboite Center Road improvement project between Dicke Road and Coventry Lane has been pushed back to August 11. However, the entire project is still expected to be finished by mid-October.

The latest delay was the result of extra time needed to relocate utilities. AEP crews originally doing the work had to be reassigned to help restore electricity in other states which were affected by severe storms during June.

The posted detour for eastbound traffic will continue to be south on Homestead Road to US 24 then east to Aboite Center and the reverse for westbound traffic. Traffic will be maintained at the intersection of Coventry Lane and Aboite Center until July 22, when the intersection will be closed for a one-week period as paving work begins.

Once the first phase is complete, crews will immediately begin work on the portion of Aboite Center from Dicke to West Jefferson Boulevard.

The $6.6 million project includes widening Aboite Center from two lanes to four 12-foot wide lanes with curb and gutter, adding an eight-foot wide multi-use path on the north side and a five foot wide sidewalk along the south side of the road.
