February classes for adults deadlines approaching

The Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation Department is offering the following classes for adults to chase away the winter blahs:

Copeland’s Watercolor Series, Tuesdays, Feb 9 – April 6, 6 – 8:30 pm
Watercolor’s inherent luminosity and capacity for rapid execution are just two of the unique properties that make it so popular… In our Beginning class, you will learn many basic watercolor techniques including values, color mixing/ blending, washes, glazing, dry brushing, texture and more. Instructor Marilyn Copeland is a nationally certified and accredited art instructor. To order a watercolor kit (approximately $50) please call Marilyn at 574-834-4768 or bring your own supplies. You will receive a supply list when you register or view it at your convenience at www.fortwayneparks.org. Registration deadline: Feb 2. Fee: $89. Location: Community Center, 233 W. Main St.

Balloon Decorating for Special Events, Wednesdays, Feb 10 – Feb 17, 6 – 9 pm
Think festive with large balloon designs and sculptures for your special event or party. You will learn to build several variations of helium and air-filled balloon arches, columns and small sculptures. In the first class session, you will assemble a 3-foot Sculpted Heart and leave class with a kit to make your own heart sculpture at home (just in time for Valentine’s Day). In the second class session you will make a Birthday Topiary centerpiece to take home. You must take the Beginning Balloon Decorating class before participating in this class. Registration deadline: Feb 3. Fee: $43 Location: Community Center, 233 W. Main St.

The Civil War – Beginning to End, Thursdays, Feb 11 – March 11, 5:30 – 7:30 pm
It was the greatest war in American history. Three million fought – 600,000 died. It was the only war fought on American soil by Americans, and for that reason we have always been fascinated with the Civil War. Join Marshall in his continuing discussion of the Civil War from the first battle to the last and the people who fought. Children ages 11-17 may attend with an adult at the adult-child rate. Instructor Marshall Brinkman has been a student of the Civil War since he was a small child and is currently the president of the “Fort Wayne Civil War Round Table.” Registration deadline: Feb 4. Fee: $23 or $27 Adult/Child Fee. Location: Community Center, 233 W. Main St.

Register on-line at www.fortwayneparks.org or call 427-6011. If you miss the registration deadline for a class, call Lee Penrod at 427-6468 to see if spots are still available.
