Groundbreaking for new Fort Wayne facility to be occupied by Swiss Re
Swiss Re has announced it will hold a groundbreaking ceremony today at 3:00 p.m., to celebrate construction of a new 80,000 square feet office building, located at 1670 Magnavox Way. The building, which is owned and being constructed by Hanning & Bean Enterprises, Inc., will be leased to Swiss Re on a long term basis.
The new building will be adjacent to the company’s current office location at 1700 Magnavox Way.
Swiss Re and its predecessor companies have been part of the Fort Wayne business community since 1912 and the company employs approximately 250 people in its Fort Wayne office. The new building will be constructed to meet Swiss Re’s needs in the coming years.
“We are looking forward to the construction of this new, state-of-the-art building,” stated Fort Wayne Mayor Tom Henry. “Swiss Re has been an integral asset to our business population. This expansion signifies the strength of both Swiss Re and the City of Fort Wayne during tough economic times.”
The project was first announced in January of this year. “Over the last year working with Swiss Re in concert with our architects, Design Collaborative, and our general contractor, Harold McComb & Son, we have designed and are constructing a World Class environmentally friendly building using local talent and resources,” said Bill Bean of Hanning & Bean Enterprises. “I am extremely proud of the fact that this entire project was financed and designed locally and that over 95% of the materials and subcontractors involved are from right here in Indiana.”
Financing for the project is being provided by Centier Bank & Grabill Bank.
“Swiss Re highly values the team here in Fort Wayne,” said Tracy Choka, Head of Product Management for Swiss Re Life & Health America. “The new building exemplifies Swiss Re’s commitment to its employees in Fort Wayne, and to the local community as well.”
