Gaming Study Committee tomorrow – 9/13/2009

The State General Assembly’s Gaming Study Committee reconvenes tomorrow in Indianapolis for its second meeting.

The agenda may be downloaded here.  Riverboat Casinos seems to be the topic for tomorrow and the discussion includes the movement of existing riverboat casinos in Gary to new locations.  This has been mentioned several times locally.  The owner of one of the existing licenses in Gary has expressed interest in moving it to this area.  In particular, the first area mentioned was north, up in Steuben County near the Toll Road and I-69 interchange.  There’s been further talk of shifting that a bit south to Fort Wayne.

I checked with the City and no one will be speaking on behalf of the City at tomorrow’s hearing.  There is one more hearing scheduled in October, on the 19th.  I would expect City officials to speak at that meeting.

I will be travelling to Indianapolis in the morning to bring a full report.
