What’s Happening in the Parks July 18 – 21

Foellinger Theatre: Check out the Theatre’s amazing new sound system at three FREE summer concerts, brought to you in part by Arts United and the Indiana Arts Commission:

  • Saturday, July 18 at 8 pm – Fonn Mor will perform well-crafted original and traditional songs, and rollicking jigs and reels that prove an entertaining experience for all audiences to enjoy. The band successfully blends traditional Celtic folk with a variety of other cross-cultural and rock influences.
  • Sunday, July 19 at 2:30 pm – The Summit City Chorus will dazzle you with the harmonies of four-part barbershop—coming from 60 men, ages 18-80. There will be several guest barbershop quartets to enhance the concert.
  • Tuesday, July 21 at 8 pm – The Fort Wayne Area Community Band will perform “Back Home Again in Indiana,” a musical cruise through the songs of our Hoosier composers.

McMillen Park Golf Course: Boys and girls, bring your clubs and give us your best shot! Sign up for the Drive, Putt & Pitch golf skills competition for ages 3 – 18 on Saturday, July 18 at 9 am. Awards will be given to the top three boys and girls in each age division for each competition. Participants can pre-register at the Fort Wayne Parks & Recreation Main Office or sign-up the day of the event. Registration fee is $5. For more information please call 427-6003.

Botanical Conservatory: On Sunday, July 19, 7 pm – 10 pm, bring a lawn chair for an evening in the outdoor gardens enjoying Vintage jazz band and vocalist Francie Zucco. Settle into a spot on the Terrace or in the Exploration Garden, wander through the display gardens, enjoy the summer evening, and dance to the music. Wendy’s will serve Frosties and water; food and beverage will be available from Mad Anthony Brewing Company – please do not carry in food or beverage. In the case of rain, we’ll move inside under glass. The Festival finale fireworks are beautifully visible from the Terrace right after the concert. Doors open at 6 p.m. No reservations needed. Regular Conservatory admission applies, $5/adult, $3/child age 3-17; discount with TRF button. For more details, call 427-6440. Sponsored by Wendy’s of Fort Wayne, NewsChannel 15, and Northeast Indiana Public Radio WBOI.

Old Fort: On Saturday, July 18 (11am – 8 pm) and Sunday, July 19 (11am – 4 pm) hear the cannons roar and the rifles and muskets fire, listen to the soldiers as they complete their drills, talk with the cooks who make the food for those who live at the Old Fort. Join the Civil War re-enactors at the Old Fort as they return to the time when families were divided: Camp Allen Muster 1860 – 1865. There will be soldiers and their families to talk with, as well as children’s games and various demonstrations to either participate in or observe.
