Fun Summer Activities for Kids
Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation Department is offering the following activities:

Foellinger Theatre FREE Movies:

  • On Wednesday, July 22, 8:30 pm, the kids will go wild over “Madagascar Return 2 Africa” at the Foellinger Theatre. In this sequel to 2005’s “Madagascar,” New York Zoo animals, Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Melman the Giraffe and Gloria the Hippo, still stranded on Madagascar, start to leave the island. Suddenly they land in Africa, where Alex meets the rest of his family, but has trouble communicating with them after spending so much time at the Central Park Zoo. 2008, G.   • On Wednesday, July 29, 8:30 pm, “The Secret of Nimh” will be playing. To save her son, a field mouse must seek the aid of a colony of super-intelligent rats and discovers she has a deeper link to them than she ever suspected. 1982, PG. Sponsors: WMEE, Arts United, Indiana Arts Commission.

Pee Wee Paint Day – We’ll use finger paints, glue, watercolor and more to expose your child to the wonderful world of art on Friday, July 31, 10 - 10:45 am. Make room on the refrigerator!  Please wear old clothes to class . . . we plan to get messy.  Ages: 3 – 5. Fee: $14. Registration deadline: July 24. Location: Community Center, 233 W. Main St.

Sports Zone – Can’t get enough game time?  Log a week of game time with golf, baseball, basketball, soccer, volleyball and more August 3 – 6, 9 - 11:30 am.  Exercise your skills and find out if you will be the next All-American athlete.  Special guest appearances by local athletes will be part of the fun.  Ages 6-13.  Fee: $42. Registration deadline: July  20. Location: Shoaff Park Riverlodge, 6401 St. Joe Rd.

Challenger Sports Soccer Camp – The Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation Department has teamed up with Challenger Sports to bring kids 4 – 14 a second comprehensive British Soccer Camp this summer. This camp will provide young players with the building blocks needed to develop the dazzling skills and quickness of feet used by players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Frank Lampard, Wayne Rooney and Theo Walcot. One of the most popular features is the rich cultural element that the International staff and British coaching curriculum adds to the proceedings every day. Each participant will receive their own soccer ball and t-shirt during this camp. Participants will be divided within the age groups for instruction and safety purposes. The week-long camp will be offered August 10th. The morning session begins at 9am and the evening session begins at 5:45pm. Fee: $89 (Ages 4-5); $129 (Ages 6-9); $139 (Ages 10-14). Location: Kreager Park, North River Road. Registration deadline: August 3.
