Gallup strengths training supports student-career connections
(March 2, 2015) – Ten representatives from Northeast Indiana’s business community and ten representatives from area New Tech high schools are taking part in Gallup Strengths Coaching training as part of the region’s efforts to connect students directly to representatives of Northeast Indiana’s leading industries.
Representatives from Gallup are in Fort Wayne this week to lead the 4.5 day training session that focuses on developing student and employee strengths rather than mitigating weaknesses. Fortune 500 companies around the world along with schools and universities have utilized the strengths-based techniques to develop their talent pipeline. Once trained, these business and school leaders will work directly with students through the Strengths Coaching model, to simultaneously help students identify and cultivate their own innate talents, while connecting them to careers.

The training directly supports the region’s career connection efforts through the Big Goal Collaborative, an initiative of the Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership. The program will be held in the ideation lab at The Summit and is being sponsored by the Partnership with funding provided by local foundations, including the Olin B. and Desta Schwab and McMillen Foundations.
“If our region is going to reach the Big Goal, our students must be prepared for the jobs of the future,” said Sherry Grate, superintendent of DeKalb Central Schools. “The key here is connecting students to the region and its employers in a more direct way than ever before.”
Organizations participating in the training include Ambassador Enterprises, Ash Brokerage, BAE Systems, Fort Wayne Metals, Medical Protective, Micropulse, Parkview Health, Raytheon, Triton Metal Products and Ultra Electronics-USSI. High school partners include Adams Central Jet Tech, DeKalb Central New Tech, Eagle Tech in Whitley County, Lakeland High School in LaGrange County, New Tech Academy at Wayne High School and Viking New Tech at Huntington North.
