Wembaster’s note: An email from the FWPD this morning at 10:05 am indicated the victim in this shooting had died. It further indicated an autopsy had been scheduled for earlier this afternoon to determine cause and manner of death.

Critical Shooting Incident

Incident Location: 600 McKinnie Ave
Victim: Adult Male/Critical Condition
On Monday, December 29, 2014, at 8:38 PM, the City of Fort Wayne Police Department responded to the 600 block of McKinnie Ave. reference an altercation Officers arrived and located an adult male in critical condition, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The male was transported to a local hospital where he remains in critical condition.
Initial information is that a witness was driving down McKinnie Ave., and saw a fight between two males. The witness began to call police, and as the witness turned around to get more information, the witness heard a gunshot and observed one male lying on the ground. Officers arrived and found the adult male victim, and the victim did indeed have what appeared to be a gunshot wound.
At this time it is unclear what led up to the altercation or the shot being fired. The only suspect information is a male black wearing dark clothing, but it is unknown where the suspect fled to or if anyone else was involved.
Detectives are canvasing the area, searching for and interviewing witnesses. Crime Scene Technicians are processing the scene, searching for and collecting evidence. There are several businesses in the area, but it is unknown at this time if surveillance footage is available.
