TinCaps Snap Skid with Walk-Off Win
(May 8, 2013) – For the third time this season, the Fort Wayne TinCaps earned a victory in walk-off fashion, defeating the Great Lakes Loons, 6-5, Wednesday afternoon at Parkview Field. Fort Wayne improved to 11-3 at home with the victory, which also ended a three-game losing streak.
The TinCaps trailed, 5-3, heading to the bottom of the eighth inning, but got a two-run triple from Luis Tejada to tie the game. In the ninth, Alberth Martinez drove home Brian Adams, completing a comeback victory for Fort Wayne (17-13).
Joe Ross, who did not earn a decision, threw 59 pitches through the first six innings, having allowed only two hits and four baserunners. In the seventh, though, he gave up five runs, two of which scored with Genison Reyes on the mound, and left with a possible loss looming over his head. The TinCaps have won all six games started by Ross.
Great Lakes (12-19) lost its sixth straight game, and fourth of five to Fort Wayne this season. The Loons send 10 men to the plate in the seventh inning, picking up five of their eight hits in that frame.
Roman Madrid (3-0) picked up his third victory of the season after pitching the top of the ninth and facing just three batters. Miguel Sulbaran (2-1) took the loss for the Loons.
Game two of the three-game series is scheduled for Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. The scheduled starters are Max Fried for the TinCaps and Jharel Cotton for the Loons. The game can be seen on XFINITY 81 and heard on The Fan 1380 and TheFanFortWayne.com.
